Achilles Healer - Achilles Tendon Strap $40.00USD $34.00USD

The Achilles Healer relieves pain and discomfort in the Achilles Tendon.

The Achilles Healer is an Achilles Tendon Strap that works by encouraging faster heel rise. The Achilles Healer support applies compression to the Achilles Tendon helping to reduce stress and pain on the problem area. In addition, upward pressure is applied to the heel. The lift of the heel will reduce stress and pain of the Achilles tendon.

The Achilles Healer Tendon Strap is a duel functioning, lightweight devices made of ProWrap which allows for adjustable compression.

The Achilles Healer is worn directly against skin and fits comfortably inside most footwear.

The Achilles Healer is washable; we recommended rinsing the device after each use and allowing it to air dry overnight to extend the life of the product.

The Achilles Healer provides immediate relief from most Achilles Tendonitis related pain.

Achilles tendonitis

Achilles tendonitis is an inflammation of the tendon. It often results from a small stretch injury that causes the tendon to become swollen, painful and less flexibile than the normal tendon. Untreated, this injury may fail to heal, the tendon can tear or progress to a chronically painful condition. Of course, in some people, a tear may progress to a complete rupture of the tendon. A ruptured tendon may occur when the tendon has been structurally weakened by an ongoing tendonitis, or when a completely healthy tendon is subjected to a sudden, unexpected force. As a result, the tendon tears.

The pain caused by Achilles tendonitis can also develop gradually without a history of trauma. It can be a shooting pain, burning pain, or even an extremely piercing pain. With this injury, pain, swelling, and loss of function can occur. Since the calf muscle may no longer be attached to the heel bone, people find it difficult to walk normally, and have difficulty doing activities that require any type of significant push off with their toes such as running, jumping, doing toe raises. Left untreated, the tendon often fails to heal, thereby resulting in a permanent disability.

Achilles tendonitis is a common problem often experienced by athletes, particularly distance runners. Achilles tendonitis is a running injury that typically occurs from abnormal foot stroke in push-off and too-tight calf muscles. It is a difficult injury to treat in athletes due to their high level of activity and reluctance to stop or slow down their training.

There are several factors that can cause achilles tendonitis. The most common cause is over-pronation. Over-pronation occurs in the walking process, when the arch collapses upon weight bearing, adding stress on the Achilles tendon.

Other factors that lead to Achilles tendonitis are improper shoe selection, inadequate stretching prior to engaging in athletics, a short Achilles tendon, direct trauma to the tendon, and heel bone deformity.

Achilles tendonitis is easy to diagnose. It usually occurs in people who are between 35 and 45, and who are not necessarily athletic. The tendon and the leg is painful, and pushing off the leg may be painful and weak. The Achilles tendon is swollen, and visibly thickened. This can be felt with the finger as an elongation which is thickened in the tendon. Treatment of Achilles tendonitis begins with a very carefully designed program of stretching, a specific type of physical therapy, and using a brace like the Achilles Healer designed for treatment of chronic tears of the Achilles tendon.

Insertional Achilles Tendonitis:

This condition is usually painful at the back of the heel. Tenderness is found somewhere at the back of the heel either directly behind or more often somewhat posterior-lateral (outside back part of bone) or posterior-medial (inside back part of calcaneus). Occasionally the tenderness continues to the undersurface of the calcaneus and can overlap and coexist with plantar fasciitis.
