I have been training for the Top of Utah Marathon, and I developed severe pain on the outside of my right knee causing me to quit training for about three weeks. I believe I have IT band irritation. I used the PattStrap Knee Compression strap above my knee cap, and the first time I ran with it I was unimpressed. I made it about a 1.5 miles and had to walk the rest of the way home. I happened to order a two pack of the straps and a week later I decided I would try one above my knee cap and one below. I made it 3.5 miles with absolutely no pain. I stretched and iced it that night and the next day my knee was a bit sore so I put the straps back on and the pain again went away. There must be more to my knee pain than just the IT band, but I know for sure I would not be able to train right now without using the PattStrap bands. It feels so good to be back on the road training again. I felt sure with pain so severe my goals of running my first marathon were squashed. In regards to the strap, I read on another review that the foam strap worked really well and absorbed sweat and didn't slide around. I would like to add my seconds. I have used neoprene knee straps in the past and as soon as they got sweaty they would slide all over. These straps stay in place throughout my entire run. I'm glad a little surfing on the internet allowed me to find these straps. I knew if I didn't find something soon I would have had to quit training all together.
